Biography of the Consul General in Miami

Ms. Lucita C.G. Moenir Alam assumed her new position as Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Miami in August 2005.

|
After obtaining a degree in International Public Law from the University of Leiden, Consul General Moenir Alam started her career at the Foreign Relations Directorate of the Netherlands Antilles, based in Curaçao. From May 1978 until March 2005, she dedicated herself to enhancing the international relations of the Netherlands Antilles and was chosen to lead the organization as the Director in 2000.

Consul General Moenir Alam’s experience in the Caribbean and Latin America, as well as on a broader international experience enabled her to work closely with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is responsible for the international affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands as a whole. She participated in numerous Kingdom delegations to international conferences including the United Nations, UNESCO, and the Law of Sea. She also headed many delegations to promote closer co-operation within the Caribbean and Latin America, such as ECLAC (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean), CDCC (Caribbean Development and Co-operation Committee), and CARICOM (Caribbean Community and Common Market).

While carrying out special assignments regarding referendum/constitutional issues, Consul General Moenir Alam became a regular speaker and guest lecturer about these issues at symposia, service clubs, and universities.

Consul General Moenir Alam is pleased to head a Consulate General located in a diverse and vibrant region of the United States where Caribbean and Latin American ties are particularly important. In addition to Florida, the Consulate General in Miami is responsible for the following areas of the United States and the Caribbean: Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, the Bahamas, the Turks & Caicos Islands, Puerto Rico, the American Virgin Islands, and the Grand Cayman Islands. With the help of her knowledgeable staff and several dedicated Honorary Consuls, Lucita Moenir Alam is devoted to representing the Kingdom of the Netherlands within her region to the best of her ability.

On a personal level, Lucita Moenir Alam is particularly proud to be the mother of twin sons who are both attending college. In her limited free time she enjoys reading, travelling, Caribbean dancing and taking long walks, especially along the beach.
